Advantages of Using Fuse Clips
image001

Ease of Replacement

Quick Change: Fuse clips allow for easy and quick replacement of fuses without needing to unsolder or disconnect wires. This is particularly useful in applications where fuses might need to be replaced frequently.

Tool-less Replacement: In most cases, fuses can be replaced without any tools, reducing downtime and simplifying maintenance.

image001

Design Flexibility

Multiple Fuse Sizes: Fuse clips can accommodate various sizes and types of fuses, providing greater flexibility in design and component selection.

Adjustable Spacing: The spacing between fuse clips can be adjusted to fit different fuse lengths, allowing for more versatile circuit designs.

image001

Durability and Reliability

Strong Contact: Fuse clips often provide a stronger and more reliable contact with the fuse, reducing the risk of poor connections and ensuring consistent electrical performance.

Heat Dissipation: Metal clips can help dissipate heat more effectively than plastic housings, reducing the risk of overheating and improving overall safety.

Versatility

High Current Applications: Fuse clips are suitable for high-current applications where robust connections are needed. They can handle higher currents more reliably than pin connections.

Wide Range of Applications: Fuse clips are used in a variety of applications, from automotive to industrial, due to their adaptability and ease of use.

Application of Fuse Clips

Automotive Applications

In automotive electrical systems, fuse clips are commonly used because they allow for easy access and replacement of fuses, which is crucial in the event of a fuse blowout.

Industrial and Commercial Equipment

In industrial settings, where equipment downtime can be costly, the ability to quickly replace fuses without specialized tools is a significant advantage.

Prototyping and Custom Designs

For prototyping or custom electronic designs, fuse clips provide the flexibility to change fuse ratings and types easily without redesigning the PCB or wiring layout.

6.35x32mm Fuse Clip Installation Steps

Determine the Mounting Location

PCB Mounting: If you are installing the fuse clips on a PCB, identify the location on the PCB where the fuse will be placed. Ensure that the spacing between the clips matches the length of the fuse (32mm).

Panel Mounting: If you are installing the fuse clips on a panel or chassis, find a suitable location that is easily accessible for fuse replacement.

Prepare the Mounting Holes

PCB Mounting: Most fuse clips designed for PCB mounting will have pins that fit into holes on the PCB. Ensure that the PCB has the correct hole pattern for the fuse clips. If the PCB doesn't have pre-drilled holes, you may need to drill them yourself.

Panel Mounting: If mounting on a panel, you may need to drill holes to secure the fuse clips with screws.

Install the Fuse Clips

PCB Mounting:
●Insert the Fuse Clips: Insert the pins of the fuse clips into the holes on the PCB.
●Solder the Pins: Use a soldering iron to solder the pins to the PCB, ensuring a secure electrical connection. Make sure to apply the solder evenly and avoid creating solder bridges between adjacent pins.
●Check the Solder Joints: Inspect the solder joints to ensure they are solid and there are no cold solder joints.

Panel Mounting:
●Position the Fuse Clips: Position the fuse clips on the panel where you have drilled the mounting holes.
●Secure the Clips: Use screws to secure the fuse clips to the panel. Ensure they are tightly fixed and do not move.
●Wire the Clips: If the fuse clips need to be wired to the electrical system, strip the ends of the wires, insert them into the terminals of the fuse clips, and tighten the terminal screws.

Insert the Fuse

Once the fuse clips are securely mounted, insert the 6.35x32mm fuse into the clips. Ensure that the fuse is firmly held by the clips and makes good contact.

Test the Installation

Use a multimeter to check the continuity across the fuse clips to ensure that the electrical connection is solid.
Power up the circuit and verify that the fuse is functioning correctly and that there are no issues with the installation.

Safety Precautions
●Turn Off Power: Always ensure that the power is turned off before working on any electrical system to avoid the risk of electric shock.

●Proper Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area, especially when soldering, to avoid inhaling fumes.

●Wear Protective Gear: Use safety glasses and other protective gear as necessary to protect yourself from accidental injuries.

FAQ

Q: What is a fuse clip?

A: Fuse clips enable easy installation and replacement of overcurrent protection devices. Generally resembling U clamps, fuse clips also keep fuses secure in moving vehicles and machines that experience high vibrations.

Q: What are the different types of fuse clips?

A: Electronic fuse holders can typically be grouped into four different categories: Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fuse Clips, Printed Circuit Board Fuse Holders, Panel Mount Fuse Holders and In-Line Fuse Holders. PCB Fuse Clips – Most economical with typically the lowest acquisition cost, but the fewest amount of features.

Q: How do fuse clips work?

A: The fuse accessory's terminals are in charge of both receiving current from the circuit and returning it to the circuit. Contacts, which are frequently in the form of a clip or an eyelet, are in charge of interacting with the fuse to deliver current to and from the fuse.

Q: What is a fuse clip used for?

A: Fuse clips enable easy installation and replacement of overcurrent protection devices. Generally resembling U clamps, fuse clips also keep fuses secure in moving vehicles and machines that experience high vibrations. Littelfuse produces clips for fuses of all designs and sizes.

Q: What is the difference between a fuse block and a fuse holder?

A: A fuse holder is designed to handle a single fuse and is often installed inline. This is vastly different from a fuse block where you have a large device that holds up to twelve different fuses.

Q: How do I choose a fuse holder?

A: Amperage Rating: The amperage rating of the fuse holder should match the amperage rating of the fuse you're using. If the fuse holder is rated for a lower amperage than the fuse, it can overheat and cause damage to the electrical system.
